Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Dance Ensemble will hold its spring performance with Allied Motion Dance Company at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 10 and 11, in the Wolf Kuhn Theatre of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.
Jaye Mackinson, adjunct dance faculty, has staged excerpts from some of Tchaikovsky’s ballets. She also choreographed “Rococo,” a modern dance in which dancers are challenged with expression and precision in technique.
Teaching professor and Ensemble director KT Huckabee prepared the repertory dances “Who Won the Human Race” and “Daughters Unknown.” These dances ask the personal and global questions of who and why we are fighting and how our lives impact future generations. Additional dances by Huckabee, “POV” and “Do Not Despair,” look at personal responses to various situations. Finally, “Furious Dancing,” inspired by Alice Walker’s book of poetry “Hard Times Require Furious Dancing,” is group sourced choreography of Ivyside Dance Ensemble dancers and Huckabee in response to selected poetry from the publication.
Performances are free and open to the public thanks to the Kjell Meling Arts for All Initiative. For further information, call the box office at 814-949-5452.
